Youth & Adult Beginner Information

New to the hobby of stamp collecting?
Experiencing your first stamp show?
Here are a few things you don't want to miss.

Beginner Activities

Adults who are new to the hobby can attend three FREE seminars in the "Beginning Collector's Series" on Friday, March 3. Learn about soaking, identification, catalogues, & tools. Tongs, magnifier, & stamps provided. Sessions include: Learning Philatelic Lingo (11 a.m.-12 p.m.), Utilizing Tools of the Hobby (1 p.m.-2 p.m.), and Tips for Preservation and Storage (3 p.m.-4 p.m.). Also, volunteers at the APS StampBuddy booth can answer questions, offer opportunities for examining stamps under microscopes, provide guided tours of the show, and assist in locating supplies, dealers, and societies.

 

Boy Scout Merit Badge Workshop




Saturday, March 4 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
Cost: $20

A 6-hour session for Boy Scouts ages 10-17. Pre-Registered Scouts will complete all requirements for the Stamp Collecting Merit Badge. Some advanced work required – provided by mail. Space is limited. Hosted by APS. Cost: $20 per Scout ($25 after Feb. 1st).

 

Discovery Cove (Youth Area)

Provides hands-on activities for children ages 6–12 each day of the show. All children who visit the youth area and complete a stamp passport activity will receive a free packet of stamps, an activity booklet, and information about the Young Stamp Collectors of America.

 

Exhibit Tours

Learn about the competitive stamp exhibits: Take a free guided walking tour. An estimated 300 exhibit frames will feature single-frame Champion of Champions and Most Popular Championship. Open competition includes Cinderella, Display, Illustrated, Postcard, and Youth categories. See exhibiting information

 

Quarter & Dollar Booths

Several special booths are designed for beginners. No stamp may be sold for more than 25¢ and no cover for more than $1 at these booths. At one booth "Stamps by the Bucket" a bucket of stamps will cost only $5 ($1 for kids age 15 and under).

 

On The Road Courses


Two all-day sessions will be offered for collectors to expand their knowledge.

Stamps in Your Attic

Individuals may bring stamp collections or other philatelic material for FREE informal identification and evaluation. As needed, referrals are made to appropriate dealers on the show floor for further assistance.
