The Journal of the American Philatelic Society.
Since 1887, The Premier Philatelic Magazine in the Nation

Welcome to The American Philatelist, the premier philatelic magazine in the nation and the oldest philatelic journal in the world. The AP, published monthly by the American Philatelic Society, is available through APS membership.

Each issue of the AP features:

  • colorful articles, with subjects ranging from topicals to postal history, cinderellas to revenues, research to fiction

  • Society news, resources, and sources for stamps ("Sales Talk ")

  • calendar of stamp shows and exhibitions ("Show Time")

A sampling of the AP Table of Contents illustrates the rich diversity of AP writing. Readers interested in looking at back issues, or searching for specific subjects, should check the American Philatelic Research Library's website: it includes an online card catalogue as well as an articles database and search engine. If you need copies of specific back issues, contact Connie Swartz in the Administration Department.

Interested in writing for the AP? We welcome articles about any aspect of philately, so long as they are original with us. As noted in our Authors' Guidelines, please use an active voice and conversational style. Provide some background information so that readers can follow your discussions. Submit your manuscript with appropriate artwork to AP Editor Barbara Boal.

The AP offers affordable Display Advertising-- with sizes that range from full-page color to one-inch black and white ads. AP Classified Ads offer cost-effective advertising to all members. Each month these ads reach more than 55,000 members for just pennies a day. Classified ads may be submitted on-line.
