The Vooys fellowship was established in 2007 and is given in appreciation of a $5,000 donation to the American Philatelic Research Library.
Daniel W. Vooys (1914-1978) was once called Mr. Philatelic Literature by George W. Linn, founder of Linn’s Stamp Weekly. Dan believed that philatelic literature was indispensable for the serious philatelist.
In 1969, Vooys said of the APRL: “The possibilities of the library are tremendous . . . It is a good philosophy that one must 'put something back.' Over the years we are helped by others, who were helped by others, etc. A person can give of his time, if he cannot give of material assistance. This can apply to a community chest, an educational institution, a hospital or a church. If you have enjoyed your hobby over the years, this library project is a way that you can 'put something back.'"
Thank you to Cheryl Ganz for "putting something back" and supporting the APRL.
