Costa Rica Scott 147
Also available in .pdf format.

One of these Costa Rica stamps is genuine. Can you tell the difference?
If you are having trouble, see the "hints" and answer below.

Hints:

  1. Forgery: A large black dot is centered under the surcharged “10” in the bottom-left part of the stamp. Two smaller but prominent black dots are located close together under the surcharge “10” on the right. The smaller upper dot is located slightly to the right of the larger lower dot. Usually, forged surcharges are less clearly printed than the originals. Inverted surcharges are forgeries.
  2. Genuine: Although tiny specks of black ink are sometimes visible, prominent dots do not appear under the ovals on the genuine surcharged stamps.
