Winning Exhibits at APS AMERISTAMP EXPO 2015

Attendees of the American Philatelic Society’s winter stamp show, AmeriStamp Expo 2015, held February 13–15 in Riverside, California, were treated to a spectacular array of exhibits.

Larry Lyons won the Single Frame Champion of Champions Award for his “America’s First Stamp Design, The United States City Despatch Post.” Lyon’s entry qualified at APS StampShow 2014 and was judged the best of the single-frame exhibits that had been shown at national shows throughout the United States and Canada in 2014.

The Most Popular Champion of Champions award went to Rosalie Bock’s “All in the Family,” which won the Most Popular award at Rocky Mountain Stamp Show.

The AmeriStamp Expo Single-Frame Grand Award went to “The First Postal Cards of Persia” by Behruz Nassre-Esfahani. Two Single-Frame Reserve Grand Awards were presented to: “The 50¢ Zeppelin Issue: A Study in Design” by Cheryl R. Ganz and “U.S. Civil War Era $500 Revenues: Their Purpose Illustrated” by Michael T. Mahler.

Honors for Best Display Division went to “Incense and Its Evolution into Armenian Scented Paper (Papier d’Armenie)” by Igor Grigorian. The Best Illustrated award and Gold went to “The 3-Cent Connecticut Tercentenary Issue of 1935 and Its First Days” by Anthony F. Dewey.

The “Oldies But Goodies Team” won the American Association of Philatelic Exibitors Single Frame team competition. Team exhibits were “Lundy Island: The Early Years” by Richard E. Drews, “Galena’s Lead Mining Era: An American “Boom to Bust” Story 1838–1869” by Kathryn Johnson, “Prexies but not on a Cover” by Elizabeth Hisey, “Orange Free State 1 Shilling Brown of 1896” by R. Timothy Bartshe, and “The Local District and Company Provisional U.S. Narcotic Stamps” by Ronald E. Lesher Sr.

The National Stamp Dealers Association sponsored the Most Popular award for the open competition. The American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors sponsored the Single-Frame Champion of Champion, Single-Frame Grand, two Single-Frame Reserve Grand awards, and the remaining special show awards.

The next Single-Frame and Most Popular Champion of Champions competitions will be held at APS AmeriStamp Expo 2016, January 29–31, in Atlanta, Georgia
