APS StampShow Comes to Richmond, Virginia, August 12–15, 2010

APS StampShow — The largest annual stamp show in the United States — will take place August 12–15, 2010, in Richmond, Virginia. Hosted by the American Philatelic Society the show will be held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center at 403 North Third Street in Richmond.

The floor plan for the event at the Richmond Convention Center has been laid out to accommodate booths for a bourse of approximately 130 dealers and as many as 14,000 pages of exhibits in 16-page frames.

The dealer bourse includes the United States Postal Service, United Nations and Nordica postal administrations, as well as dealer booths where all covers will be priced at $1 or less and all stamps at 10¢ or under. In addition, Regency-Superior. Ltd. of Saint Louis, Missouri www.regencystamps.com will conduct a special auction featuring Stamps & Postal History, with presale viewing on site during the show.

Greater Richmond Convention Center

The philatelic exhibition will consist of the annual Champion of Champions competition between Grand Award winners of World Series of Philately shows held between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010. The traditional open competition also will be held — the Grand Award winner’s exhibit will qualify to participate in the World Series of Philately competition at APS StampShow 2011 in Columbus, Ohio. Entries will be accepted for the open competition until May 15, 2010.

There also will be a Literature Exhibition that showcases philatelic publications, including handbooks, special studies, catalogues, periodicals, articles, columns, and radio or television productions published no earlier than January 1, 2008.

“Stamp Collecting 101,” a special adult beginner program, will be held Saturday 10 a.m.–2 p.m. The USPS/APS “Stamp Zone” — the youth area — will be staffed all three days and will have special activities just for kids. Well-known U.S. stamp designer Chris Calle plans to be there, and has designed the cachet for a special StampShow cover.

StampShow will host get-togethers by at least a dozen other national philatelic organizations. The APS General Membership Meeting will take place on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Meetings and seminars have been planned for the four-day event by nearly 40 organizations.

The show and bourse will be open from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
