Summer Seminar 2019 Course Highlight - Poland

     APS members of all experience levels interested in expanding their knowledge of international Polish philately can register for the 2-day Summer Seminar course Poland with instructor Thomas Bieniosek.

     010919_Figure 1During the two-day retrospective of “The Cmplte Hstry of Poland (abridged)”, students will experience Polish philately from the pre-stamp era to post World War II and learn about such topics as; Polish orthography, history, culture, and literature. 

     Enjoy delving into specific eras and issues; pre-stamp, issue of 1860, WWI locals, post-war overprints and forgeries, inflation, gold currency, WWII occupation, officer camps issues, and post-war issues both Communist and post-Communist.

     Students will leave the course with the ability to read inscriptions on Polish stamps, describe the various eras of Polish philately, recognize some of the more common forgeries, make sense of Polish specialized catalogs, use the resources of the American Philatelic Research Library, detail Polonia as a topical subject, and much, much more!

Meet the Instructor:Thomas Bieniosek

     Thomas has been collecting the stamps of Poland for 56 years. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Polonus, the Polish Philatelic Society, and heads the Publications Committee for that group. Bieniosek expertises Polish stamps for the American Philatelic Society expertising service. Tom is president of the Medina County Stamp Collectors Club, and past president of the Collectors Club of Akron. He has been a member of the American Philatelic Society for 35 years and has been an active volunteer for just as long.
