Summer Seminar Online

Summer Seminar Online will offer APS members an opportunity to participate in more than 50 different learning experiences during the month of June.  Pick and choose from a wide variety of topics and interest areas.  Seminars will be offered once, at a scheduled time, and last for approximately an hour.  Courses will also be offered at scheduled times but involve several meetings.  Presenters are all philatelic experts and accomplished writers, exhibitors, dealers, and specialized collectors.  All sessions will be recorded and available for on-demand viewing (for a fee) on the C3a learning platform.

$10 for one hour courses.  

Courses with multiple sessions are priced accordingly.  (Courses are available to APS members only)

Intermediate/Advanced Philatelic Exhibiting

A 2-Day Course Presented by Dr. Edwin J. Andrews

Monday, June 22 – Tuesday, June 23, 2020

Got an exhibit? Take it to the next level by applying advanced techniques. Got questions about judging? Be privy to how scoring guidelines are interpreted by judges.

Course Description:

From intermdiate to experienced veterans, you will learn new techniques and ideas for starting an exhibit or improving what you have. Refresher on basic guidelines, including in-depth discussion on how guidelines are interpreted by judges. Workshops on preparing new exhibits/subject areas; advanced mounting techniques for odd sized material. Emphasis on preparation of the title page, exhibit treatment and synopsis.
Participants are encouraged to bring examples of their title pages, examples of various exhibit sections and their synopses for group review, discussion and critique.

Intended Audience:

Intermediate and advanced philatelic exhibitors.

Meet the Instructor

Dr. Edwin J. Andrews

Lifelong collector and member of APS for over 43 years, Dr. Edwin Andrews, has exhibited 101 times since 1972. His 27 different exhibits use a variety of treatments, including: display, thematic, aerophilately, revenue, fiscal revenue, postal history, military postal history, Cinderella, topical, picture post card, one frame, and traditional. Dr. Andrews has earned a myriad of gold/large gold medals and special awards. He has won multiple Grand and Reserve Grand awards.
Dr. Andrews is an accredited Chief Philatelic Judge and former member of CANEJ (2013-2019). He was Lead Editor for the APS Manual of Philatelic Judging and Exhibiting (7th Ed. 2017). Edwin was a Board Member, Treasurer and is a Life member of the AAPE. He is a member of numerous philatelic societies; and is currently a Board Member and President of the Polonus Polish Philatelic Society.

Distinguished Philatelist Dennis Gilson

The Summer Seminar Distinguished Philatelist award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated dedication, leadership, and commitment to the hobby. 

Dennis has been a member of the American Philatelic Society since January 1977 and received the 2016 Luff Award and the Century Award Plaque. He is a member of the APEX Expert committee, volunteers regularly at the APC and is an esteemed Summer Seminar Instructor.
