On June 3, 2023, the Allentown Philatelic Society celebrated its 100th anniversary with a reception and award ceremony for local students who designed stamps for the occasion. Hosted at the Allentown Art Museum, the reception drew an audience of around 120, including awardees and their families. The American Philatelic Society’s Director of Expertizing, Ken Martin, addressed the standing-room-only crowd, delivering a presentation on the history of postage stamp design.

The society’s Animal Stamps Art Contest was conducted in partnership with the Allentown School District and the Allentown Art Museum. The contest was open to students in grades K-12, who were tasked with creating an original postage stamp featuring any animal – living, extinct, mythical, or entirely of the child’s creation – in any medium. Entries were separated into three categories (elementary, middle, and high school), each with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner. Prizes totaling over $1000 were distributed, along with trophies and certificates for the winning designs and honorable mentions.

Prizes were awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in three categories: elementary, middle, and high school.
Entries are currently on display at the Allentown Art Museum along with information about the society and stamp collecting. The exhibit will remain open to the public until June 11, and selected entries will also be displayed at the club’s semi-annual stamp show, EPASS, on July 8.
