Ever wondered what it’s like to be a philatelic librarian, a librarian who is also a philatelist or what it’s like working in a philatelic library? Come and join us for the upcoming Stamp Chat session titled “Libraries, Librarians and Philately: A Panel Discussion” on Thursday, April 8, 3:00-4:30 pm EDT. Giving their perspectives and thoughts on these and other library matters will be a special panel of philatelic librarians and philatelist librarians.
The special panel will include Nicola Davies (Head of Collections, Royal Philatelic Society London), Jim Gates (Librarian Emeritus, Baseball Hall of Fame), Dr. Deborah Lee (Professor/Associate Dean for Public Services, Mississippi State University Libraries), Dr. Richard Morel (Curator, Philatelic Collections, British Library), Baasil Wilder (Librarian, National Postal Museum) and Scott Tiffney (Librarian/Director of Information Services, American Philatelic Research Library). This Stamp Chat session will be moderated by APS host Heidi Rhoades.
This wide-ranging discussion, open to the panelists, will include the topics of the role of the librarian, the role of the library patron, digitization, copyright, the use of internet resources, and much, much more. Each panelist with give a brief introduction of themselves and the resources and services of their libraries, followed by an open discussion of topics related to librarians, libraries and philately. Come and join the discussion as we explore philatelic resources and research from a unique perspective, from that of the librarian.
