A brand new display is now on exhibit in the main lobby of the Cedar Rapids Post Office.
Members of the Cedar Rapids Stamp Club assembled and mounted the full set of Black Heritage Series of US commemorative stamps issued annually since 1978.
“The Black Heritage Stamp Collection serves not only to commemorate notable leaders who are easily recognizable to the masses, but to educate about the more obscure, yet profoundly significant historical figures who have impacted American life."
“The Black Heritage Stamps serve as an opportunity to acknowledge African Americans who have affected change, built the infrastructure of America and altered the trajectory of this nation, for the better” according to Gail Branham, USPS website."
Club members Steve Kossayian, Don Horak, and Mike Taylor assembled, mounted, and arranged the exhibit of 44 stamps on specialty White Ace pages, donated by Michael Mules of Fox River Stamps.
The display case is located within the post office counter area at the main Cedar Rapids Post Office, 615 6th Avenue SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52406. The club will maintain this display through March 2023.
The display will appear next CERAPEX 2023, April 22-23, 2023 at the Machinists Hall, 222 Prospect Pl SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
The club meets 7PM on the first Monday of each month at the First Presbyterian Church, 802 12th St., Marion Iowa. For more information, the website is http://crsc.mysite.com .
