At times I am caught by surprise when somewhere unexpected stamps are referenced.
For instance while watching reruns of my favorite crime show Rizzoli and Isles, there is an episode titled “Post Mortem” (season 7, episode 4) where they investigate the death of a mailman. In the episode they talk about stamp collecting and actually mention the American Philatelic Society! I had to rewind twice to make sure my husband heard it – LOL.
Another example, while leafing through my April 2020 issue of Country Living magazine, I was surprised to see a three page spread in their “Field Guide, Hunt” section titled Thrill of the Hunt – Pretty Postage. It encourages snail mail devotees to liven up their letters with colorful postage. Click the link below to see the article.

My most recent sighting is a restaurant! Fellow collector, Kurt Petersen, recently shared that he enjoyed a great burger with his kids at the Penny Black Grill & Tap in Rochester, MI. How cool to have lunch in a restaurant named after the first self-adhesive postage stamp located in the original Rochester Post Office. The post office served the community from 1938-1988 and in 2010 opened again as the Penny Black Grill and Tap.
So what’s your strangest stamp encounter? Feel free to share by emailing [email protected] along with a few photos – something fun that we can share with other members to share how stamps are such a big part of our lives.
