Expertizing can often seem like a challenging and sometimes daunting aspiration. Qualified individuals may shy away from offering their expertise to APEX for a variety of reasons. However, we ask that you consider the important contribution you can provide to the hobby by applying to become a member of the APEX committee of examiners.
If you are an APS member who specializes in a particular country or area, maintains a reference collection, has a knowledge of forgeries and the ability to offer qualified opinions on condition, repairs and alterations, APEX can use your assistance. If you are a professional dealer who maintains membership in the APS, ASDA or NSDA, you also can contribute to the benefit of stamp collectors by applying your unique qualifications in the field of philatelic expertizing.
An opinion on an APEX certificate not only identifies a stamp by a catalogue number, but also reveals the actual physical condition of the item, including hidden flaws, alterations and repairs. Collectors and exhibitors can address the identification and historic background, but the professional dealer, in establishing market value, possesses the knowledge to properly evaluate condition. Since expertizing addresses both identification and condition, this is why APEX needs your input.
Areas for which additional experts are needed include:
Please note that only individuals that are APS members and have a valid U.S. postal address are considered to be on the APEX committee of examiners. If you are interested in becoming an expert, please contact Ken Martin by phone at 814-933-3808 ext. 205 or by email at [email protected]
