APS Stamp Chat presenter, Mr. Howard Summers, has collected stamps since he put the Great Britain Fife Harling stamp into an album fifty years ago. He collects worldwide specializing in G.B., G.B. postal stationery, U.S., Biafra and Katanga, Antarctica and recently Malayan States.
Being a film buff, he sought to combine movies and philately, writing a booklet, The Philatelic Filmography, in 2007. This expanded massively into the 400p. book, Stamps and Stamp Collecting in Popular Culture which came out in 2015. It won Vermeil medals at Europhilex and the World Stamp Show in New York. This Stamp Chat is based on items in the book.
“Stamp Collecting in Popular Culture” is a fun multi-media mix of movie clips, TV shows, stories, songs and even a comic strip, all of which have a stamp collecting theme. You will see and hear items dating from 1939 to 2011.
Howard lives in Borehamwood, U.K. You can follow him on Twitter @HowcomServices.
In January 2020, he published his latest book, Bibliography of the Philately and Postal History of the British Isles, which lists every book written about British and Irish stamps and postal history.
