We’re trying something new – a virtual show and tell! We hope you’ll join us on June 26 at 7 p.m. Eastern to share your topical philatelic favorites.
Since this is a new sort of event for the APS, we’re sure you’ll have questions about how this is going to work. So, we wrote up a handy guide with some tips and tricks to help the session run as smoothly as possible.
We’re expecting a little trial and error in our first session, and we thank you in advance for helping us to test out this format so we can continue to provide new types of events for all kinds of stamp collectors. See you at show and tell!
Make sure you’re registered for the event
Make sure you're registered for this Stamp Chat ahead of time; click here to register if you're not already.
You should receive a confirmation email from Zoom after you register, and another email will go out an hour before the event to remind you. If you don’t receive a confirmation email, make sure to check your junk/spam folder, and if there’s nothing there, send us an email at digitalcontent@stamps.org.
Raise your hand to share
If you want to share on camera during the webinar, please click the “Raise Hand” button at the bottom of your Zoom window. When it’s your turn to share, the hosts will send you a notification through Zoom allowing you to accept a position as panelist. You will briefly leave Zoom but will reenter the webinar automatically. From there, you should be able to turn on your camera and audio using the buttons at the bottom of the Zoom window to share your material. Make sure to have your microphone set up and ready to go – using a set of headphones with a built-in microphone usually works best. Once you've finished sharing, please make sure to mute yourself.
Unless you raise your hand and are invited to be a panelist, your camera and audio are automatically disabled.
Scan what you’d like to share ahead of time
If you’d rather not turn on your camera, or if you’d like us to show your item(s) on the big screen, you can share scans of your stamp or other philatelic material with us ahead of time by emailing the images to us at digitalcontent@stamps.org with the subject line Show & Tell: Topical Collections. You can also take a well-lit, focused photo with a smartphone or camera to share.
You can also send us a brief description of your item(s) that one of the hosts will read to the rest of the group during the webinar. If you want to talk about your item(s) without turning on your camera, you’ll also receive an invitation to become a panelist, but you do not have to turn your camera on.
Keep an eye on the time
Depending on how many participants we have, we may have to put a time limit on individual shares. If that’s the case, we’ll let you know how long you have to share once the webinar has started. If we run out of time before everyone has the chance to share, you can email us at digitalcontent@stamps.org with an image of what you brought along with a brief description of the material and we’ll post it as part of a news story on stamps.org.
Post your questions in the chat
Have questions for any of the show-and-tellers? Use the chat function to ask your question, and we’ll either respond in the chat or read your question out loud.
Everyone’s invited
The event is open to all, not just APS members, and you don’t have to bring something to show to attend this session – just tune in and hang out with us!
