On January 30, 1882, James and Sara Roosevelt of Hyde Park, New York welcomed the birth of their son, Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Franklin accomplished much in his lifetime, most notably as 32nd President of the United States.
He is cherished as the "Philatelic President" for his love of the hobby. A stamp collector from his youth, FDR joined the APS while he was governor of New York.
During his presidency, he regretfully declined invitations to attend any local, national or international philatelic events. However, he always sent an enthusiastic and knowledgable reply, regretting his inability to attend but wishing he could.
President Roosevelt is a member of the American Philatelic Society's Hall of Fame, inducted in 1945, the year of his death.
