One of the most common responses to why people collect or why they are attracted to these little bits of paper is because of the art work featured on them. In addition to stamps, of course, there's ephemera with its own aesthetic and appeal.
Mr. Nirlay Kundu joins host Heidi Rhoades on APS Stamp Chat to both discuss and demonstrate his unique cachet making process.
Nirlay is a self taught artist who has successfully merged his love of philately and painting into a highly successful and sought after line of cachets. He began creating cachets after he moved to the United States from India in 1995.
His first cachet was the Lewis and Clark issue of 2004. He produced two different cachets of this issue in the editions of twenty. You can look at and purchase Kundu's portfolio of cachets on his website Nirlay.com.
Kundu continues to hone his craft and remains a passionate stamp collector of 40 years; he has a worldwide collection and his favorite stamp is the iconic, Penny Black.
Art appreciation is an egress into this hobby of kings and queens; join this APS Stamp Chat or watch it on the APS YouTube Channel.
