POSITION SUMMARY
The Education Director is a collaborative, hands-on leader who drives the organization’s education strategy and leads the development of philatelic educational content. In collaboration and consultation with other APS directors and the Education Task Force, this role sets direction for how education supports member value and growth, including the production of philatelic education content across all experience levels and the administration of education programs. This role will additionally support the Marketing Department in developing and maintaining edutainment content and entry-level tools to engage potential new members of all ages and experience levels. A part-time Education Assistant supports the Education Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Educational Content Development – 50%
- Establish learning pathways and curate educational philatelic content that can serve stamp collectors across all experience levels.
- Coordinate with philatelic experts to develop online philatelic curricula that provide a clear and highly engaging progression from beginner to advanced level philately.
- Coordinate and drive participation in the APS online learning platform – the Stephen Campbell Home of Online Learning (Stamp SCHOOL).
- Leverage volunteer philatelic experts to evaluate & re-establish in-person learning opportunities, both on-site at the APS and at the largest stamp shows around the country.
- Curate and promote appropriate third-party education assets.
- Identify opportunities across the APS website and other owned channels to maximize engagement with education content resources.
- Coordinate with and support the Marketing Department and external stakeholders to develop, update, and promote the APS education content and high-quality engagement content, such as downloadable stamp albums, collecting guides, and other materials.
- Select and supervise a vendor to produce highly engaging video content that balances authority, accessibility, inspiration, and accomplishment.
Philatelic Educational Program Administration – 40%
- Coordinate all aspects of the Young Philatelic Leaders Fellowship (YPLF), including recruitment and selection of Fellows, individual learning plans, assignment and oversight of mentors, YPLF event coordination, and alumni engagement.
- Establish and maintain guidelines and framework for “the Hub,” the APS online philatelic discussion board; select and train group moderators; and facilitate posting of content to maximize community engagement.
- Leverage volunteer philatelic experts to establish a regular recurring interactive webinar series, including identification of high demand subjects and selection of experts.
- Evaluate and manage the Stamps Teach program that provides learning activities that use stamps and postal history items as instructional tools for K-12 educators.
Measurement, Reporting, and Admin – 10%
- Manage and coordinate the activities of the Education Assistant and multiple volunteers.
- Support annual budget and strategic planning processes.
- Monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs) across platforms and programs and use insights to guide optimization efforts.
- Coordinate fundraising initiatives in support of education efforts, including identification and solicitation of YPLF sponsors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- At least two years’ experience leading course development, eLearning, or multimedia education and outreach initiatives.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent project management skills with proven ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Comfortable with public speaking and appearing on camera.
- Demonstrable experience successfully managing budgets and implementing projects on time and on budget.
Preferred:
- Demonstrable experience successfully facilitating in-person learning events.
- Demonstrable experience using AI technology to streamline workflows and create highly engaging educational content.
- Experience or background in philately, or other collecting fields.
