Michael Laurence
Michael Laurence, a 55-year member of APS, has been collecting the U.S. 1869 stamps since 1949. He was for many years editor of Linn’s Stamp News and currently edits the quarterly Chronicle of the U.S. Classic Postal Issues, published by the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society. This article is based on a paper he presented at an event sponsored by the National Postal Museum on 2009. Along with many other internationally acclaimed 1869 exhibits, Laurence’s specialized 10¢ 1869 collection will be on display at the NAPEX show in Washington June 7–9, part of a larger celebration of the sesquicentennial of the 1869 stamps.
