Highlighting the Court of Honor at the August 25-28 Great American Stamp Show (GASS) in Sacramento, California will be two-time APS Champion of Champions Gordon Eubanks with his exhibit First Federally Issued Postage Stamps of the United States. The exhibit which won the Champion of Champions in 2012 includes many of the best examples of the first two United States stamps, the 1847 five-cent Benjamin Franklin and 10-cent George Washington (pictured above).
Aditionally in the Court of Honor will be a ten frame Worldwide Rarities and Uniquities exhibit by APS past president and Luff Award winner John Hotchner. Hotchner’s exhibit features many lesser-known rarities. The American Philatelic Society will show two of the most famous U.S. rarities including a copy of the 1918 Inverted Jenny airmail stamp and the original invert sheet of the 1962 Dag Hammarskjold issue. Also being shown by the American Philatelic Society will be the earliest known president free frank, a cover sent by George Washington about a month after his inauguration in 1789. (images of these items can be found in our show guide)
The Court of Honor will also include a fun “Hot Wheels Stamps” exhibit by Amos Media editor in chief Jay Bigalke.
The Court of Honor exhibits supplement the 700 frames (10,000 pages) of exhibits in three different competitions and this year’s Champion of Champions competition among the grand award-winning exhibits from U.S. and Canadian national shows between July 1, 2021 and June 30, 2022.
Additional information on GASS which is free and open to the public is available at stamps.org/GASS.
