Volunteering with the APS and APRL

Philately was built on the efforts of thousands of motivated people like you, who saw the needs in our community – for leadership, education, outreach, expertise, and so much more – and decided to step up. When you choose to volunteer for the APS and APRL, or in your local philatelic community, you ensure the hobby’s future.

Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteers are indispensable to keep the APS and APRL running smoothly. Every year, we record more than 5,000 hours of time put in by our dedicated volunteers! Whether in-person, at a show, or from the comfort of your own home, you can lend a hand in nearly every area of APS operations.

Volunteer Work Week

The APS and APRL host an annual Volunteer Work Week every July. Join us at the American Philatelic Center in Bellefonte to lend a much-needed hand to the library, education department, sales division, and more!

Library Opportunities

As the largest public philatelic library in the country, the APRL relies on volunteer support for archiving, indexing, and organization projects. Many volunteers offer their support in person, but we can also use your help if you live far away. Contact the library to discover how your skills and expertise can support the APRL.

Volunteer Your Knowledge

Our hobby’s most valuable asset is the knowledge of our members. Many APS members volunteer their expertise to create educational courses, write articles for The American Philatelist, or authenticate postal material for the APS expertizing service (APEX). If you have knowledge to share, we would love to work with you to enrich the hobby.

Other Ways to Volunteer

Interested in supporting the APS and APRL, but not sure how best to fit your talents to our needs? Contact us to discuss other volunteering opportunities.

Support the Hobby Locally

While the APS and APRL can always use your direct support, the most important work in the hobby right now is being done on a local level. Our members volunteer their time to their local clubs and shows, run educational programs for Scouts, schools, and local libraries, and share the love of stamp collecting in their communities.

American Philatelic Society

The American Philatelic Society is a non-profit organization for stamp collectors worldwide. Founded in 1886, the APS serves collectors, educators, postal historians, and the general public by providing a wide variety of programs and services.
