Volunteer Work Week Participants make a difference!!

Comments from previous Volunteer Work Week Participants

  • VWW is an opportunity to give back to the hobby, helping to insure it will be available for generations to come. – Betty M.
  • VWW is my chance to thank the APS for all it does, especially the staff. – Roy G.
  • It is a good time to become familiar with staff and other volunteers. – Janet S.
  • I love coming to help out, meeting new volunteers, seeing old friends and going out with a gang on trivia night. – Paula B.
  • The hobby has given me uncountable hours of fun and relaxation. This is my opportunity to pay that back. - Charles B.
  • The staff is very appreciative. There are jobs for everyone, no matter how knowledgeable you are about stamp collecting, no matter your physical ability. I have little knowledge and like to be active. I was busy all week. – Laurie B.
  • We hear a lot about strengthening the hobby. I think volunteer work here is an effective and enjoyable way to do that. And what a beautiful facility and town…and great staff. – Joseph S.

What to Expect

The week begins on Monday at 9 a.m. with a welcome reception, followed by a tour of the American Philatelic Center. Participants will then “get to work” on a project in an assigned department. The amount of time and number of days spent volunteering are up to each individual participant. There are many projects to be accomplished during the week, in every department, so volunteer time is thoughtfully utilized by staff.

The American Philatelic Research Library and Circuit Sales will maintain their normal operating hours during Voluntunteer Work Week, there will be a "Treasure Station" for those hoping to make interesting finds in a large pile of stamps, and a mid-week “thank-you” luncheon will take place on Wednesday, July 17th to share stories and compare notes on the accomplishments and finds of the week.

Travel, lodging, and most food will be the participants' responsibility, but your out of pocket expenses are tax deductible. See Local Lodging for ideas where to stay.

*Anyone who registers after June 14th will not receive a t-shirt*
