Member Mailbox: Wyoming Valley Stamp Club

Ron Breznay, president of the Wyoming Valley Stamp Club, has written in to tell us about the two events the club hosted in October to promote stamp collecting.

On October 3, the club visited the Recreational Therapy Department at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center to present a program about stamp collecting to local veterans. Ron shared that one of the attendees, Walter Merek, 99, was already quite familiar with stamps — Walter is not only a member of the APS, but was also a member of the original Wyoming Valley Stamp Club! He has an extensive collection of 125 albums after beginning collecting in 1960.

The club also hosted an event that combined the philately of National Stamp Collecting Month and the spookiness of Halloween at the Hoyt Library in Kingston, PA. The club prepared a display of stamps and seasonal books, hosted a contest that invited local kids to design "ghoulish" stamps, and gave away prizes. The event was even featured on the local news

Thank you to Ron and the Wyoming Valley Stamp Club for sharing their story with us, and our shared hobby with their community! To learn more about the events, you can check out excerpts from the club's newsletter here.
