Genuine is always perforated 14 and the lowermost hair in front of the ear forms a shallow semicircle and is attached at both ends. Of the different types of forgeries, a very crude one is perf 11½ and the others have the lowermost hair not attached at the right end. Many forgeries have fake bar cancellations.
