We would like to recognize an American Philatelic Society board member and a Bellefonte, Pennsylvania business owner for helping keep APS employees safe during the COVID-19 crisis. Their in-kind donations to the APS Cares program made a big difference.
Before the American Philatelic Center reopened for limited operations on May 11, 2020, a committee of APS business directors was tasked with establishing a safe work environment, based on Pennsylvania Department of Health requirements.
APS is located in Centre County, Pennsylvania. The county is under the state's "Yellow" recovery phase.
APS needed help with two important safety items, masks and hand sanitizer.
Director-at-Large Michael Bloom arranged a shipment of 2,000 disposable masks for employees who did not have an adequate face covering. The masks arrived days before the APC reopening. Michael was gracious enough to cover the costs.
The second item was hand sanitizer. We are fortunate that one of the tenants in our Match Factory complex is Big Spring Spirits. Company co-owner Kevin Lloyd has devoted part of his distillery to making hand sanitizer, which Big Spring has made available to local residents with proceeds going to local charities. When we asked for the cost of purchasing a supply, Big Spring gave APS all the sanitizer we needed.
Thanks to their efforts, APS could ensure the safety of our staff without additional costs. APS Executive Director Scott English says about the donations:
“In tough times, good friends step in to help out. Our APS staff is our greatest asset and the outpouring of support from APS members reinforces that.
Thanks to Michael and Kevin, our staff can stay safe and healthy while getting us back to business.”
If you would like to make a donation of safety supplies, please contact Jeff Krantweiss, Chief Administrative Officer.
What is APS Cares? APS Cares was born out of one member sharing their hope that staff members are supported during this time. We are doing all we can until our doors open again and we are able to operate at full capacity from the American Philatelic Center. When the time comes, we want to be fully prepared to get you back to enjoying every service the APS has to offer as quickly as possible. APS Cares is a fund to allow us to keep our staff working and serving you in safety.
APS Cares continues to accept donations to assist our employees during this time of need. Please read more about the program and meet our employees, including Helen Bruno, Kathleen Edwards, Doris Wilson, Scott Tiffney and Morgan Stinson. From your extended family at the American Philatelic Society, we offer our appreciation to you for staying connected with us.
Thank you to Michael Bloom who generously donated face masks for APS employees to use.
Big Spring Spirits, long-time tenant of the Match Factory complex, offered the APS a large donation of hand sanitizer. Thank you!
