Carol Bommarito
Although originally from St. Louis, Carol lived in New York for most of her life, since 1972. She is a New Yorker, but with a hybrid accent. Carol had a long career as an interior designer and came to philately first as a supportive spouse of Harvey Mirsky FRPSL. After his death in 2011, she sold his wonderful 1847 collection and started her own collection of transatlantic mail to and from the United States in the early adhesive stamp era. The romance of that time and the role the emerging United States played on the world stage attracted her to this area and to this particular cover. This cover can be seen in Carol’s current eight frame exhibit: United States Mail To, From, and Through Great Britain 1840–1875, awarded a large gold at Stockholmia and the Nojex Grand Award in 2018.
Carol is honored to be an APS member, a director of the United States Philatelic Classics Society and the advertising manager, a fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society London, a member of the European Academy, the Club de Monte Carlo, and the New York Collectors Club as well as the Collectors Club of Chicago.
Carol has been fortunate to have shared her life with two great philatelists and true gentlemen, her dear late husband and dear late life partner Eddie Bridges PHD, FRPSL.
