There is forthcoming a wonderful opportunity to take part in a live event in the hobby that you love. Aerophilately 2022 is just around the corner. This show, to be held November 4-6 at the American Philatelic Center – the home of the American Philatelic Society and American Philatelic Research Library, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania – is a show that you won’t want to miss.
This is the third in a series of airmail shows held at APS headquarters. The first two were in 2007 and 2014, and were outstanding successes. As show chairman, I can promise that we are doing everything in our powers to make this 2022 show even more successful.
Our show is being sponsored by the American Air Mail Society, the American Philatelic Society and Daniel F. Kelleher Auctions. Additionally, major support has been received from H.R. Harmer Auctions, Robert A. Siegel Auctions and Schuyler J. Rumsey Auctions. We will have dealers, a greater than 200-frame World Series of Philately national level airmail exhibition, three full days of aerophilatelic and astrophilatelic seminars, a Saturday night awards dinner at Toftrees Golf Resort and other events.

The show has arranged an $82 per night show rate at the Best Western Plus University Park Inn and Suites, 115 Premiere Drive, State College. Call direct to reserve your room, 814-234-8393 and ask for the show rate. The hotel is almost full, so do it now. There will be a hospitality room at the hotel, open in the evenings, with complimentary snacks and drinks, and plenty of airmail and astro discussions.
At the show there will be a book signing on Friday between noon and 1 p.m. when Cheryl Ganz, Jon Krupnick, David Ball and Jerzy Kupiec-Weglinski will be happy to autograph their recent books.
Seminars scheduled are: “Amazing Zeppelin Stories,” “Expansion of U.S. Airmail to Foreign Destinations,” “Wake Island and the Airmail,” “Terrorism in the Air,” “The Veil is Lifted, PAA over the Atlantic in WWII,” “Air France South Atlantic: Origins and Destinations,” “Pan Am Clippers Conquer the Pacific-August 1933 to April 1946,” “Air Crash Covers of Pan American World Airways,” and “Pan American Clippers on the Eve of Pearl Harbor and in the Weeks that Followed.”
Besides material from the United States, countries displayed in competitive exhibits include Colombia, Canada, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Iraq, Iceland, Germany, Poland, Rattlesnake Island, Cyprus, Egypt, Lithuania, China and many others, proving that this is truly an international event.
The show also has several free gifts for attendees. All will receive, gratis, a booklet containing important articles on aerophilately. This has been put together by Matt Heller, who has done an outstanding job. Attendees will also receive one of Krupnick’s recent Final Flight books (Pan Am Pacific), compliments of the author, provided the attendee doesn’t already own a copy.
If you have never been to the American Philatelic Center, you won’t believe what you see – magnificent buildings (the rehabilitated complex began life as an 1899 match factory), shared by the APS and the American Philatelic Research Library. You may want to spend hours researching your favorite philatelic interests. Everything is there.
We welcome non-members of the American Philatelic Society or American Air Mail Society. There will be opportunities provided for you to join either society.
We look forward to seeing you at the show.
