The American Philatelic Society announced Thursday, that its annual Summer Seminar will move to an online format for 2020.
Director of Education Cathy Brachbill, phD sent the following statement to those who signed up to attend and teach this year.
"For 40 years, we’ve been honored to have you and many others join us for our annual Summer Seminar. We’re grateful for your support in signing up this year and, like you, we expected another week of friends, fun, and learning. As our nation responds to the COVID-19 global pandemic, we are doing everything possible to help stem the spread. Unfortunately, that includes cancelling stamp shows and club meetings. The health and safety of our members is our top priority. In an abundance of caution, the APS will be cancelling the 2020 Summer Seminar on Philately scheduled for June 21-25, 2020. For those who usually attend SCOPEX at the same time, the Mount Nittany Philatelic Society has also cancelled SCOPEX in June. They are working to see if a fall show is possible. We will update you as possible. The APS will be issuing full refunds to individuals who registered for Summer Seminar 2020. Please note, by order of Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, the American Philatelic Center has been closed. We will process the refunds as quickly as possible, but we ask for your patience. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience and thanks for your support. We hope you’re already planning to attend Summer Seminar 2021, scheduled for June 20-24, 2021. In the next few weeks, the Education Department will be working on a schedule for Summer Seminar 2020 –Online, workshops and seminars that you can enjoy from the safety of your own home. We are looking for volunteers to serve as virtual presenters and asking for your help. Please contact the APS Education Department with your questions and to volunteer your expertise at [email protected] or 814.933.3810 Thank you for your understanding."
