In 2009, Charlotte Sheer’s fifth-grade students at Foxborough Regional Charter School read the best-selling children’s book Number the Stars by Lois Lowry which spurred a project that would span eight years and bring together thousands of people in a common goal: honoring the innocent lives destroyed by the Nazi’s reign of terror with stamps. The students collected 11 million postage stamps--representing 6 million Jews, 1.5 million children, and 5 million others in 21 European countries who perished under the regime in Nazi Germany. The Foxborough school then started looking for a permanent home for the artwork, stamps, and lesson plans.
The American Philatelic Society accepted the entire collection and started creating an exhibit at the AP Center with the support of funds from the Mighty Buck program.
Be Part of Future Remembrances!
It is important to honor the past and Mighty Buck allows you to be part of such historic projects. How does the Mighty Buck program work? Pledge $12 — just a dollar a month — to the Mighty Buck Club. As those dollars add up, we turn your invaluable gift into significant programs for the stamp collecting community. To join, pledge to give at least $1 a month for the whole year—that’s just $12 total. But, you don’t have to stop there. $2 per month delivers double the opportunity, as does $3, $4, or $5. Now that you know what this program delivers, we know you see its value.
