Introduction to Competitive Philatelic Exhibiting by Ken Martin
The stamps and covers in your collection have stories to share. Ken will teach you how to reveal their tales in your next exhibit. You’ll start at the very beginning learning the basics for putting together a competitive philatelic exhibit and end up mastering the steps for preparing an exhibit. You’ll then discern the process for entering an exhibit into competition, you’ll use jury feedback sessions, judges’ evaluation forms and “at frame” critiques to enhance the stories that your stamps and covers have to tell.
A stamp collector since 1975, Ken Martin joined the American Philatelic Society in 1980, began volunteering for the organization in 1982, and became a full time employee in 1995. He is currently the Director of Expertizing at the APS.
In his earlier years Ken was president of the Junior Philatelists of America and founded the Penn State Stamp Club. He has been a nationally accredited philatelic judge since 2003.
Outside of philately, Ken is a blood and platelet donor and serves on the board of the Mid-Central Chapter of the American Red Cross. He is also involved with the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau and his local Rotary club.
