2021 StampStore Fee and Commission Increases
As we look to bring in the New Year, we reflect over the past twenty years and are finding it necessary to make some changes.
Where we began -
In September of 2000 we launched StampStore to provide our members a convenient way to buy and sell their material online.
The primary goal was to offer an easy, affordable way for members to sell their material without needing internet experience or special equipment.
When we launched, the fee structure was set with a flat APS commission rate of 20% (with a minimum commission of 50 cents), seller submissions were 25 cents each, and the one year extensions 10 cents each.
Thru the years -
Over the years these fees were reduced and commissions were tiered as it was thought that we needed to keep rates low to be competitive with other online selling platforms. BUT, the problem with trying to be competitive is that we are not like the other platforms. We are a full-service option where we do the work for you – whereas the other platforms are do-it-yourself (you upload/scan, fill your orders, handle returns, pay transaction fees, etc.). And while we want to keep our rates low, we must be able to cover our expenses.
We currently manage the workload with a dedicated staff of three and a volunteer. While we cut expenses where possible, credit card and shipping costs alone are nearly $80,000 per year and prices for materials required rise each year.
So while we were lowering our rates, our expenses were increasing – not a good business model.
Into the future -
Our plan is to hit reset and take it back to where we started.
Beginning January 1, 2021, the submission rate will revert back to 25 cents per submission and the tiered commissions will be eliminated and will be a flat 20% on all items sold, with a minimum commission of 50 cents (on items sold on January 1st forward).
Additionally, we will raise the one year extension fee to 15 cents each.
We want StampStore to be a success for our sellers for many years to come – so we hope you can understand and support our changes.
