Philatelic catalogs are often the first “stamp book” that new collectors add to their libraries. And as we gain more experience with the hobby, we come to recognize the importance that catalogs play in our enjoyment of collecting.
The January 2022 issue of The American Philatelist was devoted substantially to the subject of philatelic catalogs. The Catalog Reference Hub features more complete versions of the catalog reviews in that issue. Other features include access to previous catalog book reviews published in the AP and the PLR, more fully illustrated examples from catalogs, and news announcements from publishers as new editions are released. The catalog landing page will be updated on a regular basis.
The January issue of the AP focused on stamp catalogs. But there are many other types of philatelic catalogs. Catalogs also focus on postal stationery, cancellations and marcophily, auxiliary markings, duck stamps, meter stamps, topical or subject-oriented catalogs, postal history inventories, and others. Writeups of these special interest catalogs will appear here and in the pages of The American Philatelist in the future.
For those of you who do not see your own collecting area or favorite catalog represented, we invite you to help us add to this resource. Contact us at aparticle@stamps.org, subject line “Catalog Reference Hub.”
